How much does motorcycle racing cost?
Motorsport is notoriously expensive but if, like most of us, you are on a budget there are ways to get on track and still keep your costs under control.
A shopping list of essential kit
The following list offers a suggested price-range, of course you can always find cheap alternatives online but we always recommend you buy from reputable stores or websites. Firstly, ensure the fit is good. A good fit enhances the safety aspect and prevents the armour from moving out of position during a slide.
Certifications and labelling
Currently the UK does not insist on motorcycle race clothing to be CE-approved, however this is the case in Europe so be prepared for that to become the norm here. We do however require all crash helmets to carry the ACU Gold Sticker.
Crash helmet
Don’t scrimp on this essential bit of kit and always buy a known brand from a reputable shop. All helmets must have an ACU Gold sticker.

Leathers and race suits
Off-the-peg or made-to-measure a good fitting suit is needed for safety. Most go for leather but kid’s options include nylon fabric.

Boots
Ankles and feet are highly vulnerable areas and demand excellent levels of protection combined with flexibility. Toe sliders are a useful feature.

Gloves
Hands are the most common point of injury when racing. Look for thumb, finger and knuckle protection – make sure the fit is good.

We have aimed to find a middle ground. We hope this race budget calculator will provide an insight into getting started in racing minimoto, mini bikes and pit bikes.
To compare, we feel an average cost to race a 600 at UK circuits with clubs such as NG Road Racing, Bemsee or No Limits you would need to budget a minimum of £1000+ per meeting.
